Bill Greig
It is sad news to tell you that Bill Greig (aged 74 years of age) has passed away on 25th May 2006 after a long illness.
Bill entered Scottish Chess and Draughts Association of the Deaf in 1951 playing for Ayrshire in the annual chess club teams championships. Since then, he faithfully continued in participating the SCDAD tournaments till 2004 when his health was deteriorated.
He was selected to play for Scotland against the Auld Enemy (England!) in the years from 1966 to 2002, regularly. See the photograph above that it was his last international match against Richard Dunn of England in Glasgow in 2002.
Bill had been playing in ICSC world deaf chess teams championships in 1990 (Veszprem), 1994 (Brno) and 1998 (Lucerne) - playing for Scotland. He was also been involved in ICSC Europa Cup in 1991 at Hamburg playing for the Glasgow club.
SCDAD will miss him as being remembered as the quiet gentle giant who had never argued with anyone and also always being cheerful.
